Essential commands every new player should know

Death's Omen uses a text-based command system. Type commands to interact with the world, other players, and your character. Commands can be abbreviated (e.g., 'n' for 'north', 'l' for 'look'). This guide covers the most essential commands you'll need as a new player.

Getting Help

  • help - Display help topics or get help on a specific command or topic
  • help <topic> - Get detailed help on a specific topic (e.g., 'help look', 'help combat')
  • commands - List all available commands

Movement

You can move in four cardinal directions plus up and down. Use full names or abbreviations:

  • north or n - Move north
  • south or s - Move south
  • east or e - Move east
  • west or w - Move west
  • up or u - Move up
  • down or d - Move down
  • enter - Enter a room or building
  • leave - Leave a room or building

Looking Around

  • look or l - Look at your current location
  • look <object> - Examine a specific object, person, or item
  • look <direction> - Look in a specific direction (only works when you stand in that direction)
  • scan - Scan your surroundings
  • scan <direction> - Scan in a specific direction
  • examine or ex - Examine an object in detail
  • exits - Show available exits from your current location

Communication

  • say <message> or .<message> - Speak to everyone in the room
  • tell <person> <message> - Send a private message to someone
  • emote <actions> - Perform an action/emote (e.g., 'emote smiles warmly')
  • whisper <person> <message> - Whisper privately to someone nearby
  • shout <message> - Shout to everyone in the area

Inventory and Items

  • inventory or i - View what you're carrying
  • equipment or eq - View what you're wearing/wielding
  • get <item> - Pick up an item from the ground
  • get all - Pick up all items from the ground
  • drop <item> - Drop an item on the ground
  • drop all - Drop all items
  • give <item> <person> - Give an item to someone
  • put <item> <container> - Put an item into a container
  • wear <item> - Wear or equip an item
  • remove <item> - Remove an item you're wearing
  • wield <weapon> - Wield a weapon
  • unwield - Stop wielding your weapon
  • compare <item1> <item2> - Compare two items

Character Information

  • score or sc - View your character's statistics and status
  • health - View your health and condition
  • who - See who is currently online
  • time - Check the current game time
  • weather - Check the current weather

Basic Actions

  • eat <food> - Eat food to restore hunger
  • drink <liquid> - Drink from a container or source
  • sleep - Go to sleep (restores health and fatigue)
  • wake - Wake up from sleep
  • sit - Sit down
  • stand - Stand up
  • rest - Rest while standing (slower recovery than sleep)
  • open <object> - Open a door, container, etc.
  • close <object> - Close a door, container, etc.
  • lock <object> - Lock a door or container
  • unlock <object> - Unlock a door or container
  • light <item> - Light a torch, lantern, or other light source
  • extinguish or ext - Extinguish a light source

Combat Basics

  • kill <target> - Attack a target (starts combat)
  • hit <target> - Continue attacking your current target
  • flee - Attempt to flee from combat
  • wield <weapon> - Wield a weapon before combat
  • aim - Aim at a target (for ranged weapons)
  • fire - Fire a ranged weapon

Social and Group Commands

  • group - View your current group
  • follow <person> - Follow someone
  • stop - Stop following
  • order <group member> <command> - Give an order to a group member

Exiting the Game

  • quit - Safely exit the game (your character will be saved automatically)

Tips for New Players

  • Most commands can be abbreviated to their first letter or first few letters
  • Type 'help <command>' for detailed information about any command
  • Use 'look' frequently to understand your surroundings
  • Check 'exits' before moving to see where you can go
  • Remember to 'sleep' regularly to restore health and fatigue
  • Use 'say' and 'emote' to interact with other players in character
  • Type 'commands' to see a full list of available commands

Remember: Death's Omen is a roleplay-intensive game. Always stay in character and use emotes and speech commands to interact with the world and other players. For more advanced commands and detailed information, use the 'help' command in-game.
